Since 1988, the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild has sponsored a traveling juried exhibition that reflects the many facets of bookbinding: Fine Binding, Artists Books, Papermaking, Boxmaking, Calligraphy, Fine Printing, and Paper Decoration. Every five years the Art of the Book showcases the original work of CBBAG members. In 2013, the Art of the Book was hosted by the Calgary Chapter with the launch at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Calgary, Alberta.
Art of the Book 2013 had two curators from the Calgary Chapter: Lisa Isley and Lee Oldford; and the jurors for this exhibit were Karen Hanmer, Jonathan Tremblay, and Jason Dewinetz.
The venues for ABOB 2013 were as follows:
Museum of Contemporary Art, Calgary, AB
McPherson Library, University of Victoria, Victoria, BC
University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC
Affinity Gallery, Saskatoon, SK
Ontario Crafts Council Gallery, Toronto, ON
Harriet Irving Library, University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, NB
I entered the Art of the Book 2013 competition in the box-making category, and am so proud to say that not only was I accepted into the exhibit, but I also won the Harmatan and Oakridge Leathers Prize.
Doomsday Sanctuarium was acquired by the University of New Brunswick in 2015 and is housed in the Special Collections at Harriet Irving Library.
